Freshly announced, Lenovo Moto Z marks the first Chinese brand in the top of international range. For the name Moto is also not a very frank on this market segment in which it had initiated his arrival with the Moto X Force in particular. This time, there are still more ideas, and we wait to see what the smartphone has in the stomach. Meanwhile, here’s a round-up of forces.

An unusual design

When one wants to stand out is first on the design you should bet. And at that level, the Lenovo Moto Z is very strong since it has no equivalent. With its huge camera module on the back, and his magnetic connector kit at the bottom of the hull, the Moto Z is quite original and clearly stands out from competition that tends to accumulate in the common traits.

Well, fortunately, smartphones this selection all have a fairly recognizable design. In broad terms, it consists entirely of metal (slices and shell), has a fingerprint sensor on the front, and features a USB port Type-C. And no visual element is below what the competition.

But its strong point is its module system. As with the LG G5, it will be possible to add items to their smartphone to make it match his desires. These modules are however outnumbered LG (a speaker designed in partnership with JBL, but also two additional batteries, a pico projector designed by Lenovo, a protective shell and, later, a camera module) and the manufacturer seems to rely heavily on it. Good idea or not? It should be the judge later, but the intention, as for LG, is commendable.

A bright screen

It’s simple, the Moto Z can claim to have the best screen on the high-end range. Finally, before it passes under our probe. Its technical configuration is equivalent to that of S7, for example, with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels on a slab Super AMOLED. Two important elements which want to tackle virtual reality.

Unfortunately, in Europe, a particularly interesting technology has been ignored: ShatterShield. This screen protection techno has shown for the first time on the Moto X Force and proved frankly baffling, to drop his mobile two good meters without the screen takes a blue.

As for Huawei and LG P9 G5, they showed fine screens, certainly, but not at the height of Samsung terminal. So now it is the Moto Z holding sleeves and donning gloves.

Performance and battery life

No time to fool around. In terms of performance, Lenovo also plays the big guys by integrating a Snapdragon 820. As Qualcomm has revised its copy from the S810, this processor is one of the top performers of the year, and was chosen by LG, HTC and Sony for their flagships. Good idea since the performance, we have comprehensively verified with the test LG G5 are excellent. There is no reason why Lenovo fails to make its mobile as good.

Side autonomy, it is against a little skeptical, mobile display a battery of only 2600 mAh. This is the worse off for this selection at this level, since the S7 and P9 show 3000 mAh, and the LG G5 stands at 2800 mAh. A priori, the Android interface Stock of mobile, often slight, should help fill some of the delay.

Multimedia

As is the fashion in 2016, Lenovo does not make the race megapixels. The manufacturer simply provides a 13-megapixel sensor, but we do not yet know the eccentricities. Moreover, neither Lenovo nor Motorola have accustomed us to the work of craftsmanship in photo technology, and we do not hope to see this smartphone match the tenors of the field. S7, or G5 LG, may still be a notch above the Moto Z.

But this phone set on the future, particularly with the release of a camera module, which we do not yet know the name and price.

Conclusion

Integrating completely premium offering, Lenovo will bring Moto in the big leagues with this new range Z. Besides, on paper, the mobile has not much to envy the competition if this is that it leaves a deficit of experience in this market segment. To see if his good ideas manage to fill this youth.
