The gendarmerie unveils requirements for Android smartphones and tablets

The gendarmerie has launched a tender to find a service provider able to deliver smartphones and Android tablet. The specification is very specific and the total market is 53 million euros over four years.

The police wants to modernize and especially become more mobile. Currently, to receive information related to an identity card, permit or theft committed in a neighborhood, the police are obliged to be close to a TIE (Terminal board computer) or to directly call their center. Rather than being dependent on a car or a telephone, the police wants to equip its staff of smartphones and tablets that allow it to be much more independent.
