On the occasion of Computex 2016, Asus has unveiled its new range of smartphones, Zenfone 3. It consists of Zenfone 3, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, plus premium, and a Zenfone 3 Ultra, the substantial dimensions … . The most interesting is obviously the Zenfone 3 Deluxe, but is it worth facing its competition, namely the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC or LG 10 G5?
Competition is tough this year and manufacturers are redoubling efforts to offer attractive flagships at increasingly attractive prices. With Zenfone 3 Deluxe, Asus thus confronts some of the market leaders like HTC 10, the Samsung Galaxy S7, the LG G5, the Xiaomi Mi 5, and perhaps also to a lesser extent the Huawei P9. Comparison.

It’s not just size that matters
At one time, the various brands indulged a race to see who would have the biggest (PHABLET), yet still stretching and the screen size of their flagships. But if these XXL formats like many in Asia (explaining the Zenfone Ultra 3, for example), many Westerners prefer a screen between 5 and 5.5 inches, an average that all manufacturers have now joined. The Zenfone 3 Deluxe remains meanwhile slightly larger with its 5.7 inch screen. Its dimensions, it is therefore rub more with the Galaxy Note 5 / S6 Edge + and the Huawei Mate 8 out earlier, but always at the front of the stage.
It’s hard to really judge nevertheless his size at the moment, Asus did not release its dimensions or weight.
The premium without visible antenna …
One of the commonalities with the latest generations of smartphones is the quality of materials used. While there is not so long, plastic smartphones could be bought at 700 euros, the premium is now adorned with glass (Samsung, Xiaomi) and aluminum (HTC, Huawei and LG). It is not really surprising that Asus follows the same trend and offers a unibody metal which has the distinction of not presenting brand for antennas, almost invisible.
Full HD or 2K QWHD?
The premium is shared with the Full HD 1080p one hand and 2K WQHD another. Many blame the second board technology without interest and energy-intensive, but it now seems essential to prepare for the future of virtual reality helmets and generally require a smartphone to function.
The Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe thus positions the same rank as some of its competitors (10 HTC, Huawei … P9) slightly back from the main market leaders (S7 Galaxy and LG G5). The leave is far from huge, but to accompany its new virtual reality helmet, Asus could have provided the blow by him the best provider screen.
This is a Super AMOLED panel, with that include advantages and disadvantages. Those who love deep contrasts and bright colors will appreciate this choice, while the defenders of IPS regret the purity of white.
Still more RAM
As for performance, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe turns to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, one of the most powerful chips now, which is also found in a large majority of high-end smartphones (LG G5, HTC 10 …). The novelty here comes from the amount of RAM. With 6GB where its main competitors remain limited to 3 or 4 GB, the Zenfone 3 Deluxe has all the weapons in hand to detonate scores and benchmarks show an exemplary flow during everyday use. Asus, however, has not yet specified the speed of the memory, which also plays a lot on the feeling of the user.
While most manufacturers have opted this year for the quality before quantity regarding the pixels of the image sensor, Asus still in the bidding and integrates its Zenfone 3 Deluxe a Sony sensor IMX 318 of 23 Megapixels, a component recently submitted by the Japanese giant earlier this year. The special feature of this sensor is the presence of a hybrid autofocus combining both phase detection and contrast detection directly in its image processor, what to extra adds a laser autofocus system.
This module is also optically stabilized as well – on 4 axes – qu’électroniquement- on 3 axes – and is seen accompanied by a dual-tone flash.

nevertheless difficult to judge the quality of a camera on a simple specifications as the software part is important. Asus has however put the odds on his side to propose a rendering quality, as sharp as accurate. We bet in any case it will arrive without problems to compete in daylight with other high-end smartphones of the moment. The judgment will be done about the shots in difficult conditions and on his way “low light” able to combine multiple pixels into one to improve sensor sensitivity.
ZenUI 3.0: a light version
The user interface is highly subjective, but there are points that do not lie, and ZenUI did not shine so far by its lightness and simplicity. Given the early returns, however, the interface Asus seems simpler and less overflows unnecessarily resource intensive applications. There are still some points that lack of grace (perhaps modified through themes), but there is undoubtedly the best side ZenUI. Hopefully this is enough to rival that offer Samsung, HTC, LG or Xiaomi this or
