Cloud Drive provides the Amazon customers space on the company’s own servers. The trick: Buy the online retailer MP3s, Amazon stores the files in parallel on your Cloud Drive. So they are anywhere via browser or special smartphone app for viewing.
This usage scenario now ensures displeasure to the publishers. It remains unclear whether Amazon needs to renegotiate the current licenses with the rights holders. Amazon sees itself on the safe side: The cloud service is to understand how an external hard drive of the customer – even if it exists only virtually. Following this evaluation, a license extension is obviously not necessary.
